Berlin lowered to 'Orange Alert' status for covid cases, while New Britain, Southington, Plainville remain 'Red Alert;' Newington stays 'Yellow'

Berlin has been lowered from “Red Alert” status to “Orange,” while Newington remains “Yellow,” according to state health officials Thursday. New Britain, Bristol, Southington, Plainville and Plymouth all remained in “Red Alert” status for coronavirus cases after the latest weekly update.

For the third straight day there were no coronavirus-associated deaths reported from the area, but there were seven reported statewide for the second consecutive day. There have been 8,131 virus deaths overall.

New Britain has had 209 virus-associated deaths among residents, while Bristol has had 135, Newington 100, Southington 94, Plainville 37, Berlin 31 and Plymouth 10 since reporting began.

There were 36,968 coronavirus tests reported Thursday with 711 coming back as positive cases, a positivity rate of 1.92%. There was a decrease of nine in state residents hospitalized over the past day with the virus for a total of 324.

New Britain had 33 new coronavirus cases reported over the past day and has had an overall total of 9,479.

Bristol added 14 new coronavirus cases Thursday and has had an overall total of 5,898.

Southington had nine new virus cases over the past day and has had 3,649 cases overall.

Newington had an additional two cases reported since Wednesday and has an overall total of 2,681.

Berlin had no change over the past day and has an overall total of 1,559.

Plainville had six new cases since Wednesday and has an overall total of 1,553.

Plymouth had an increase of four over the past day and has an overall total of 946.
