NEW BRITAIN – The Clam Box has reopened and owner Nicholas Augustino encourages people to come and enjoy his fresh, high quality seafood served up fast.

Augustino opened The Clam Box March 26 this year and says people have started to return to the restaurant at 586 W. Main St. more and more. The Clam Box offers take-out and will soon be opening its porch deck for outdoor dining this summer.

“Things are coming back gradually,” Augustino said. “People are starting to feel more confident going out to restaurants. We’re looking forward to the future.”

Augustino said customers love everything at The Clam Box is fried up “fast but fresh.”

“We get people’s orders to them simple and quick and there’s nothing sitting on the counter,” he said. “Our seafood is light and fluffy and very high quality. Our lobster rolls are our number one hit and people also love our whole belly clams and fish and chips. Our French fries are the best around and our onion rings are dynamic; the breading we use is my own recipe.”

Augustino, who also owns East Side Restaurant, bought The Clam Box in April 2019 and said he sees it as “a little treasure.” He said he is looking forward to having it back open again.

“I’ve always wanted to own a seafood business,” he said. “For 30 years, seafood has taken a bad rap between red tide, the market prices and The Lord now saying you don’t have to eat fish on Fridays. We’re bringing seafood back. Our food is really dynamic, different and good and we encourage you to come by and see for yourself.”

The Clam Box is open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., all day Friday and Saturday, and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Augustino said he may also expand those hours in the near future.
