PLAINVILLE - Rep. Francis Rexford Cooley has joined House and Senate Republicans in outlining proposals aimed to make Connecticut safer.
The proposals were put forth Wednesday, in advance of a series of Judiciary Committee public hearings next week. Republican legislators argued that the current approach to public safety "does little to deter crime."
The proposals call for additional support for law enforcement, as well as new laws targeting domestic violence, juvenile crime and "commonsense bail reform."
“Connecticut needs to penalize criminal behavior and support our state and local law enforcement," Cooley said. "The current unofficial state policy of “catch and release” for repeat criminal offenders is a dangerous policy which leads to career criminals brazenly committing crime with little fear of consequence.”
